Polish composer, Frédéric Chopin, grew only one sideburn - on the right side of his face. Chopin's reason for only growing the right sideburn was because he only showed the audience his right profile. Born to a middle-class family in Zelazowa Wola, Poland in 1810, Chopin was considered a child prodigy, and published his first composition when he was seven. His father's work as a tutor for aristocratic families in Warsaw exposed young Chopin to high-society, which would later be a part of his career as a composer, performer, and piano instructor.
More about Chopin:
Chopin is well-known for his relationship with French novelist George Sand (pseudonym for Aurore Dedevant). Their relationship has been portrayed in films such as Impromptu, La note bleue, and A Song to Remember.
Prior to his death in 1849 at the age of 38, Chopin toured the British Isles in 1848 performing at numerous concerts and receptions.
The Warsaw Chopin Society organizes an International Chopin Piano Competition every five years.
